"Image and Architecture" in the Vitra Schaudepot

04.2018 - The exhibition "Image and Architecture" at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, is dedicated to the current photographic works of Dutch artist Bas Princen. The event takes place from February 24 to August 5. The opening day on February 23 begins at 6 p.m.

"News from the Vitra Design Museum: As part of the exhibition »Bas Princen. Image and Architecture« in the Vitra Design Museum Gallery, the Dutch photographer Bas Princen will talk about his artistic work. In the Gallery he presents a new series of works that question the accepted conventions of architectural photography: What is architecture, what is a picture? Where do the boundaries between them lie? How do images of architecture shape our understanding of the built environment? Princen has gained international acclaim for his suggestive artistic idiom and his collaborative work with OFFICE, the Belgian architectural firm headed by Kersten Geers and David van Seeveren.

Most of his motifs for the exhibition were shot by Princen with his ALPA 12 STC. In his portraits, he examines the characteristics and details of architecture over the centuries. He also analyses the role that images have always played in architecture. His works include Renaissance tapestries, 19th century steel constructions and Le Corbusier buildings.
