2. Transition

All drawings and all tools for the 35mm ALPA SLRs have disappeared during the six years from the moment Pignons SA - the original ALPA manufacturer - went into bancruptcy (August 1990) to the day when we (Capaul & Weber Ltd.) at last could buy the ALPA brand (29th of February 1996).

4. Repair shops and sources

As far as we know (and, please, be aware that we can NOT pass any recommendation) there are several repair shops that may be able to clean, restore or fix a 35mm SLR ALPA (we do not list some repair shops here anymore because of bad experiences that were reported by their customers - they were frustrated up to the following point: "... I will likely be forced to report them to some government agencies in New York as well as the Better Business Bureau due to their unprofessional operation..."). There is an extremely interesting camera museum in the French speaking part of Switzerland where (among many other cameras) always some ALPAs are exposed - everybody interested in photography should have visited this place at least once in his lifetime:

9. Kern & Co. Aarau

There is a permanent small exhibition about KERN & Co. AARAU, founded 1819 (different kinds of optical and other precision instruments, incl. the famous lenses KERN AARAU MACRO SWITAR 1.8 and 1.9/50mm used with many 35mm ALPAs). KERN AARAU was sold to WILD HEERBRUGG in 1988 and at least part of the production in Aarau ended in 1991. WILD HEERBRUGG was renamed LEICA GEOSYSTEMS, CH-9435 Heerbrugg/Switzerland, http://www.leica.ch and LEICA GEOSYSTEMS was bought in fall 2005 by the Swedish manufacturer of measuring systems and engineering products HEXAGON AB.
