Introduction of the ALPA 12 STC
THINGS ARE SIMPLE AT THE TOP:
Μηδέν άγαν (medèn ágan) – NOTHING IN EXCESS
It became absolutely clear during Photokina 2010 that the new ALPA 12 STC will precisely meet the needs of a group of the most demanding high-end photographers. As was announced and promised, the ALPA 12 STC is now fully available and ready for immediate shipment to all corners of the earth – typically ALPA.
The ALPA 12 STC (Stitch/Shift Travel Compact) sets a new benchmark for compact and lightweight cameras for use with digital backs and roll film backs up to 6x9. The STC offers the unsurpassed ability of freehand photography as well as stitch- or shift operation from tripod. Anticipating software solutions like the keystone correction in Phase One’s Capture One 6 the STC’s base movements set priority to lateral shifts for stitching. The square ALPA mount allows to use the camera easily in various orientations switching the back from portrait to landscape position as well as using the movements for classical rise and fall. The freewheeling function allows movements with unmatched speed and comfort as well as offering fine adjustment with a lockable shaft. Due to its unique U shape the STC body does not need any additional adapter for stitch and shift operation. All movements slide upon roller bearings – not the least expensive, but definitively the most precise, reliable and durable solution available. As with every member of the ALPA family, the 12 STC is completely integrated into the modular ALPA 12 system.
Like the new STC all ALPA 12 cameras are optimized for a specific application area and are intended for those photographers distinguishing between value and price. The ALPA 12 SWA/WA being the first “technical camera” with and without shifts for comfortable handheld operation. The ALPA 12 TC still being the smallest and lightest camera for roll film up to 6x9 and digital backs. The ALPA 12 XY being the ultimate machine with large amount of movements for tripod and studio. The ALPA 12 MAX being the choice of the highly mobile architectural, industrial and landscape photographer. And now, the ALPA 12 STC, again not an “eierlegende Wollmilchsau” (German expression for a solution trying to include everything and often more than it should with functional overload diluting its abilities), but a specifically designed and robust new element of the modular ALPA 12 platform meeting the highest demands. Everything falls in place. Everything builds up a coherent and integrated photographic system.
Μηδέν άγαν (medèn ágan) – nothing in excess, nothing unnecessary, but straight to the point. Our philosophy from the beginning and always....
